1. Please tell me more about the Walking Marathon challenge. Was it your first time organizing an event like this?
Every year, our school takes on a charity challenge, like running Coast2Coast or climbing the Welsh Three Peaks in under 24 hours. But this year was our first attempt at a walking marathon. As Head Girl, it was my first time collaboratively organizing a charity challenge, and I thought a marathon would be a great fit. However, I’ve also participated in all the other challenges in the past. A few teachers and our Headmaster were key in organizing much of the event, from transport and the route to food and T-shirts. We also had an amazing support team that was there with us every step of the way.

2. What motivated you to participate in fundraising for the Ubunye Foundation? Why this organization?
I first heard about the Ubunye Foundation through the Duchess of Edinburgh, and after doing some research on their website and social media, I knew it was the perfect charity to support. The work they do is incredible, and it felt like a meaningful way to give back. I also feel we are so fortunate in many ways, and it's important to support those who are less privileged. The educational side really struck a chord with me—it's heartbreaking that some children don’t have the resources they need to pursue their dreams, simply because of where they were born or their circumstances. That’s why I wanted to help make a difference.
3. How did you make it possible? Who helped you with organizing the marathon challenge?
It was all about teamwork! Once I presented the idea in an assembly, there was a fantastic group of students and teachers who were eager to take part. The teachers were instrumental in helping with the planning, from coordinating logistics to making sure everything was in place for the big day. Without their support, the event wouldn’t have been possible. We worked together to bring the vision to life, and it was an incredible team effort.
4. What challenges did you face, both during the planning process and on the day of the event?
Planning the walking marathon went pretty smoothly, thanks to all the helpers who were involved. One concern we had going into the event was the possibility of injuries—after all, walking a marathon can be tough on the body. But, fortunately, everyone’s spirits stayed high, and we had an incredibly resilient group of participants. The knowledge that we were raising money to support less fortunate students with educational resources kept everyone motivated and focused on the bigger picture. Despite a few minor hurdles, the event was a huge success, and everyone really pulled together to make it happen.
