Empowering Women & Youth in Ward 13
The Yendella Project is a cross-cutting initiative located in Ward 13 of the Sarah Baartman District. Rooted in community leadership, it focuses on empowering women and young people to build sustainable livelihoods and lead local development.

The Yendella Project

Our Vision
To support a community where women and girls lead the way in building thriving, climate resilient businesses - creating lasting impact for themselves and future generations.
How It Works
Ubunye’s community-led approach means the Yendella Project is designed and driven by local women and youth.
For Women:
-
A local women’s group chose to establish a poultry farm
-
Ubunye provided training in chicken care, business skills, and marketing
-
Seed funding helped launch the business and secure its future
For Young People:
-
Youth receive mentorship and guidance to:
-
Launch and manage small enterprises
-
Access training and education opportunities
-
Pursue the jobs they dream of doing
-

-
One group of young women is working to open a backpackers’ lodge on the farm, giving visitors an authentic isiXhosa experience. Ubunye is supporting them to develop a strategy and raise startup funds
Why It Matters
In an area where economic opportunities are limited, the Yendella Project gives women and youth the tools to lead local solutions – transforming challenges into enterprise, confidence, and community resilience.
