In a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, creativity, and health awareness, the Ubunye Stop TB Tournament brought together four schools from Peddie, German Village, Upper Mgwalana, Lower Mgwalana, and Nobumba Primary School for a powerful event using sport and the arts to fight TB.

The tournament wasn’t just about scoring goals or making perfect passes it was about learning, connecting, and inspiring action. The fields and courts came alive with netball and soccer, while the classrooms areas buzzed with art, poetry, and song competitions. Learners were challenged to design TB-awareness logos, with the winning designs proudly displayed on their team shirts turning each match into a moving campaign of visibility and purpose.
Creativity Meets Advocacy
In the music and poetry segments, learners performed original songs and heartfelt poems centred on the impact of TB, how it spreads, and how we can stop it. The performances were raw, powerful, and deeply moving.
As one learner shared:
“I didn’t know much about TB before. Now I understand how important it is to get tested early, taking care of your health and help others too. It’s something we can talk about. And I am happy that we got new playing shirts as well as balls, now we will be able to practice with our new balls, I wish we could play competitive games all the time because it is fun”
Another learner added with a big smile:
“The best part was making new friends and playing as a team. This gave my team an opportunity to play because at our school we don't compete with other schools and we don't usually play sports.”
A Spirit of Togetherness
Throughout the tournament, the atmosphere was electric. On the sidelines, learners sang amagwijo, offering unwavering support to their teams. Encouragement and laughter filled the air as schools cheered for each other, showing true sportsmanship and unity.

The finals took place on 29 May 2025, with German Village and Nobumba Primary School facing off in both netball and soccer. It was a thrilling, with German Village emerging as the champions in both games. But the real win was in the connections made and the knowledge shared.
A teacher from Nobumba reflected:
“We saw learners stepping up in ways we never expected. Their confidence grew, and their understanding of health issues like TB deepened. That’s the real prize.”
One coach from German Village added:
“It was incredible to see how the kids combined fun with learning. They played their hearts out but also walked away knowing more about health and how they can help their communities.”
Lasting Impact
The Stop TB Tournament has proven that when you blend education with energy, and health messages with heart, the impact is long-lasting. Through sport, creativity, and shared experiences, learners became not just competitors but ambassadors of awareness.
We are proud of every learner, teacher, coach, and supporter who made this day unforgettable. Together, we're stopping TB, one goal, one poem, and one voice at a time.
